Recent changes in the Law on Inheritance Tax and Will planning

Most people will be aware of the Chancellor’s recent statement in which he has proposed radical changes to Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. There has also been a complete overhaul of the law relating to Powers of Attorney.

We have advised many of our clients over the years of the desirability of introducing Nil Rate Band Discretionary Legacies into their Wills. If the proposals are enacted, these legacies will no longer be relevant.

A number of people have been concerned as to whether they should change their Wills and there have been one or two alarmist articles in the Press about this. Although we do not feel there is any reason to panic, we are aware that there may be a number of questions which people may like answered.
